Background

I started my education in Czechoslovakia and finished in the US, where I came as a political refugee. I studied enzymology with Michael Marletta and organic chemistry with Masato Koreeda at the University of Michigan, redox chemistry and toxicology with Valerian Kagan at the University of Pittsburgh, and completed my postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Curtis Harris at the National Cancer Institute before starting my research at Georgetown University. My laboratory is continuously supported for 20 years from the National Institutes of Health and other agencies to conduct translational cancer research. I directed the Proteomics Shared Resource at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center from 2010-2018 and developed a strong interest in analytical glycosciences. To expand the studies, we established in 2018 a Clinical and Translational Glycoscience Research Center (CTGRC) together with a group of talented colleagues.The CTGRC and my lab continue to explore the impact of glycoscience on human pathophysiology.
