Background
I started my research career as an undergraduate at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA where I met my mentor, Dr. Lynn Miller. Among many quotations I carry with me from Dr. Miller, he inspired me to believe that “research is the art form of the 20th century.” After Hampshire, I worked briefly as an instructor at the University of El Salvador, UES, in 1994. The country was 2 years past a 12-year civil war and the university was rebuilding its staff and buildings. Before, landing at Georgetown, I worked at the University of Georgia at Athens, and volunteered in labs at UMissouri Columbia, UMass Amherst and UT Austin.
